Service Description
Painting in Wood The painting in wood method of marquetry will be the cutting method that I will teach for this class. Marquetry is a technique of applying pieces of veneer to a substrate to form decorative patterns and designs. The most common places for marquetry to be glued onto is furniture, boxes or freestanding pictorial panels to be displayed as a painting in wood. Throughout history there have always been several different methods for cutting marquetry, including: knife cutting, Boulle style, piece by piece, double bevel, painting in wood, window method, laser cutting and CNC cutting. All of these techniques can produce some beautiful pieces of marquetry. Talking Points: * Design and picking out your veneers * Making the cutting packet * Techniques for cutting on the scroll saw * Shading some pieces with hot silicon sand to add a 3d depth to the veneer * Gluing the veneer to the sub-straight * applying the right oil finish Experience: General knowledge and understanding of woodworking.
